Cool Maths Website

Hello All!!

Check out these cool website. They may come handy in understanding mathematics..

1) http://www.wolframalpha.com/

This website can help you do your calculation. From simple addition to solving simultaneous equation. You can also find interesting facts about places, dates and stuff. Try plotting a function with this site.

2) http://www.geogebra.org/cms/

This website is a free mathematic software that can help you in learning Geometry and Algebra. You can plot graphs, do animation. Do some research at http://www.geogebratube.org/?lang=en for some free interactive material.

Cool website for beginners. Fun facts with images. Worth a try.

Function: An Introduction

Let us recall what is relation.

Function

Formal Definition of a Function

A function relates each element of a set
with exactly one element of another set
(possibly the same set).

he Two Important Things!

1.
"...each element..." means that every element in X is related to some element in Y.
We say that the function covers X (relates every element of it).
(But some elements of Y are not related to at all, which is fine.)
2.
"...exactly one..." means that a function is single valued. It will not give back 2 or more results for the same input.
So "f(2) = 7 or 9" is not right!
function function
(one-to-many) (many-to-one)
This is NOT OK in a function But this is OK in a function

Fraction: Equivalent fraction

"We might look different but we are the same"

That is Equivalent Fractions. Two fraction that appear different but have the same value.

How can we check if two fractions are equivalent fraction?

It's EASY!!! If you multiply or divide both the top and bottom by the same number, the fraction keeps it's value.

Check out this exercise to check your understanding!!
